The Skillman Foundation, the Detroit Youth Development Resource Center (YDRC), and the American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) hosted an Out-of-School Time (OST) Leadership Forum in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, March 9, 2018. This event provided a platform for a citywide conversation on OST system building, using lessons learned from other communities and the input of a variety of local leaders to inform Detroit’s strategic priorities for expanding afterschool and summer learning opportunities for all children. The meeting allowed community leaders to discuss the role afterschool and summer learning programs play in ensuring equitable outcomes for all children and youth in Detroit. Key takeaways from this leadership forum can be highlighted, utilized, and celebrated by community leaders as the strategic planning and system building processes continue in the future.

The American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF), a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional development organization based in Washington, DC, provides learning opportunities for policy leaders, practitioners, and researchers working on youth and education issues at the national, state, and local levels. AYPF’s events and policy reports are made possible by the support of a consortium of philanthropic foundations. For a complete list, click here.
