Breaking Ranks II: Strategies for Leading High School Reform—outlines 31 recommendations for school leaders taking on the challenge of reforming their high schools. Each recommendation falls within the focus of three core areas: Collaborative leadership and professional learning communities; Personalizing your school environment; and Curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Breaking Ranks in the Middle: Strategies for Leading Middle Level Reform—grounded in middle level philosophy, this publication and training program outlines 9 strategies and 30 recommendations similar to the recommendations Breaking Ranks II. Breakthrough High Schools—features high-minority, high-poverty high schools that have high levels of student success from across the country. These schools have implemented many of the Breaking Ranks II recommendations. What Counts: Defining and Improving Graduation Rates—shows there is no consensus on a formula that accurately reflects high school graduation rates nationwide. What Counts identifies ways in which the nation can clearly calculate and improve graduation rates. NASSP Legislative Recommendations for High School Reform—outlines 8 areas of need for federal support: academic rigor, personalized learning, adolescent literacy, low-performing students, assessments, high quality leaders, highly qualified teachers, high schools identified as in need of improvement. Advancing High School Reform in the States—identifies the policies states have enacted that align with and support NASSP’s federal legislative recommendations for reforming the nation’s high schools which reflect the reform strategies outlined in Breaking Ranks II.
Creating a Culture of Literacy: A guide for Middle and High School Principals—encourages principals to initiate and maintain schoolwide literacy improvement. Written by principals for principals, the book provides step-by-step instructions and a series of practical tools for assessing and building a school's "culture of literacy." |
