The majority of enrollees are seeking a second chance to succeed in life. Corpsmembers receive guidance by adult leaders who serve as mentors and role models, a modest stipend and a wide range of development services including significant educational opportunities, employment and training, life skill development, the opportunity to invest in their communities and earn a post service scholarship (AmeriCorps Education Award). Random assignment evaluation reported in 1997 documented positive outcomes. A second generation random assignment evaluation begins in 2006. |
