In January, the Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration (ETA) held the first of three Listening Sessions designed to increase ETA’s knowledge of alternative education. These sessions support ETA’s vision for serving the neediest youth by exploring ways to expand alternative educational opportunities for out-of-school youth through innovative alternative education programs, especially those that incorporate different learning methods and academic rigor. We believe that connecting out-of-school youth to quality alternative education is crucial if they are going to successfully transition into the workforce and contribute to America’s economy. The first Listening Session focused on defining alternative education and who it serves. The second Listening Session will focus on the variety of alternative education program models and the third session will look at federal, state, and local policies that impact alternative education. |
