What Do National Business Organizations Say About School-to-Work?
What Business Organizations Say About School-to-Work: An Analysis and Compendium of Organizational Materials is designed as a companion piece to Employers Talk About Building a School-to-Work System: Voices from the Field, two new publications of the American Youth Policy Forum and the Institute for Educational Leadership's Center for Workforce Development.
Whereas Voices offers direct insights from the employers and intermediary organizations creating and operating school-to-work systems across the country, What Business Organizations Say About School-to-Work analyzes the response to school-to-work of seven leading national business organizations: American Society for Training and Development, Business Coalition for Education Reform, The Business Roundtable, Committee for Economic Development, National Alliance of Business, National Association of Manufacturers, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Framing the discussion within the three "circles" of school-to-work activity outlined in the National Employer Leadership Council's Employer Participation Model (EPM)--1) Employers Working with Students and Teachers, 2) Employers Strengthening Company Practice and 3) Employers Building a System--the report analyzes how the publications and other activities of the seven organizations support school-to-work.
The appendix of the report features an extensive annotated bibliography of the school-to-work-related publications of the seven organizations. The analytical section of the publication dicusses general business support for school-to-work and an assessment of business involvement within the three EPM circles.
Copies of the 26-page report are available from the American Youth Policy Forum, 1836 Jefferson Place, NW, Washington, DC 20036-2505. Cost of the report is $5 prepaid.
