A Young Person's Guide to Managing Money
In an era of increasing attention to fiscal responsibility, personal finance is an issue of critical importance. This concern is particularly relevant to young people just starting out in the world of work. Without appropriate support in learning to deal with issues of money and money management, young people are at high risk of making serious mistakes with their income and expenditures.
A YOUNG PERSON'S GUIDE TO MANAGING MONEY is designed to help young people navigate the complex world of money and finance by providing a quick, easy-to-read reference for some pressing issues of money management. The booklet begins where a young person begins in the world of work--with the receipt of a paycheck and payroll deductions. There follows a step-by-step guide for how to manage and utilize money most effectively.
Key areas covered in the Guide include savings and checking accounts, credit cards and borrowing, health insurance, budgeting, paying bills, paying taxes and living independently. The Guide also provides valuable contact information and important numbers for advice and help for young people trying to make the most of their money.
The Guide has been "field tested" and critiqued by young people and several financial institutions. Cartoons drawn by young people are included in the publication. It has also been reviewed enthusiastically by several national youth-serving organizations.
The Guide is also intended as a free resource for organizations that serve young people. Education and training programs that work with young people are encouraged to adapt and refine the Guide to help as many young people as possible obtain the knowledge required to make more intelligent decisions with their earnings and investments. This booklet is purposely not copyrighted in order to increase maximum reproduction and dissemination.
